DUE: NEXT CLASS! Before the "Defining Moment" Due on 1/31

THe Introductory Speech asks that you construct a 6-8 min  speech that explains some aspect of your life. This class asks that you focus on a "defining moment". Think about an experience/moment that has had an impact on your life. Your introductory Speech should share this aspect of who you are and this will tell a story to the audience.

Be sure to incorporate a visual and Hand in a Formal Outline! You will not be able to perform your speech without a formal outline!
Read Chapter 4 pgs. 63-75

Introductory Speeches- Will begin on 2/5 PRINT THE SCHEDULE!!!
Your introductory speech should focus on a defining moment!

Watch: How To Start A Speech? Connor Niell
Make an impact from the beginning. 3 ways to start a speech... A question, A quote, a connection! Perhaps a Fact.... You want to engage the audience

Take Notes in your notebook:
Answer the following: Does Niell make significant and worthy points?
What would you do? How would you tackle your speech?

Begin to Brainstorm Ideas for YOUR FIRST SPEECH!!!! Conduct some pre-writing in your notebook. Perhaps start with a circle in the middle that  reads "defining moment in my life" then write all of your ideas around it. This is called a cluster - free/writing. I used a T chart in my lecture. You can use a T chart or H chart if that helps.

Watch: Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) "DON'T WAIT

Although it is a commencement speech it is still about his career. It is still meant to share the experience (moment) he had when he decided who he is and what he will become.
He talks about the defining moments that already happened and will happen again. However, the moment he made that decision to be an actor transformed him.

This is just brain food! You can take away what you feel from it.
Watching/ Reading Speeches is the best way to gain confidence and give speeches.
