PERSUASIVE SPEECH - 20%

  • 2 VISUALS
  • 5 SOURCES
  • A QUESTIONNAIRE    - MUST OMIT....
A seven- nine minute speech designed to persuade an audience for or against a question of policy. In the speech you may seek either passive agreement or immediate action from the Audience. In either case, you should be sure to deal with all three basic issues of policy speeches- need , plan and practicality- and to employ the methods of persuasion in Chapters 16&17 pgs. 305-357 in The Art of Speaking by Lucas.

This speech requires considerable research and skillful use of supporting materials. Special emphasis should be given to evidence and reasoning in constructing persuasive arguments.

Food for Thought?

Will Yellow Cabs in NYC become a "RIDE" of the Past? Will we "WAVE" Down a Yellow TAXI? Will that become an old fashioned concept?

Requirements: a typed full –sentence outline of the speech, including research and WORKS CITED page is DUE ON THE DAY OF YOUR PERFORMANCE!. The speech is to be delivered extemporaneously from a speaking outline. Hence the index cards.

In addition, as part of the persuasive speech assignment, you are required to construct an audience analysis questionnaire in which you seek to gauge the knowledge, interest and attitudes of your classmates with regard to your topic (Chapter 6 pgs. 111-117). You can pass this out during your speech!!!

BRADY WILL OMIT THE QUESTIONNAIRE DUE TO OUR CURRENT SITUATION

ONLINE  QUESTIONNAIRE ?

While preparing your persuasive speech.. remain true to yourself and to the principles of ethical speech making while simultaneously seeking to make your ideas as clear, appropriate and convincing as possible. Hand out the Questionnaire the day of your performance!
