Note TO ALL OF MY STUDENTS WHO ARE PERFORMING THIS WEEK!! RESOURCES & INFORMATION REGARDING THE WRITING CENTER

Please be sure to follow the guidelines to preparing a FORMAL OUTLINE for your speech!!!!
If you follow the guidelines of the formal outline you will be a successful speaker!

Your Outline MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AN INTRODUCTION: HOW WILL YOU HOOK YOUR AUDIENCE? THINK ABOUT ALL OF THE SKILLS I TAUGHT YOU IN CLASS!

  • THESIS!!!  a 2-3 Sentence Statement.. What is your speech about?
  • MAIN POINTS!! Be sure to have bullet points that break down your ideas with concrete examples!!!!!  YOUR OUTLINE KEEPS YOU ORGANIZED!!!!!
  • Be mindful of your conclusion. IT SHOULD BE COMPELLING AND WELL DEVELOPED!

DO NOT HAND IN AN OUTLINE THAT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE AN OUTLINE. SEE THE FORMAL OUTLINE SHEET.
IF YOU NEED HELP, PLEASE SEE ME AFTER CLASS, DURING OFFICE HOURS OR E-MAIL ME!!!!

PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF TIME.. TIME YOURSELF.. YOUR SPEECH SHOULD NOT BE UNDER 6 MINUTES.. IF YOU DEVELOP YOUR IDEAS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SPEAK IN 6-8 MINUTES.

VISUALS!!!! IN ADDITION, PLEASE BE MINDFUL THAT YOU NEED A VISUAL.. WE DISCUSSED TYPES OF VISUALS AND WAYS TO IMPLEMENT VISUALS. BE MINDFUL THAT YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR BEST GRADE IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES.

I WILL POST RULES FOR REVISING YOUR OUTLINES AS A PAGE BY TOMORROW.
KEEP A LOOK OUT FOR OUR RULES FOR REVISING.

I encourage ALL of MY STUDENTS to VISIT THE WRITING CENTER  to assist them with their outlines before EVERY SPEECH.

THE WRITING CENTER IS LOCATED in the LIBARY on the THIRD FLOOR!!!
YOu CAN CALL to make an appointment or simply WALK in to make an appointment!
Remember, our next speech will also require a Works Cited Page!

How does he engage his audience?
Describe his tone? His DELIVERY? How does he deliver the information?
Is  he articulate? Does his speech have power?
WHY? Does he use visuals?
