Both ways being possible, the subject can plainly be handled systematically, for it is possible to inquire the reason why some speakers succeed through practice and others spontaneously; and every one will at once agree that such an inquiry is the function of an art."Peruse Historical Speeches from The Masters of Oration: 35 Greatest Speeches of all Time.

I chose Martin Luther King JR’s “I Have a Dream Speech “because this speech was so powerful in history that anytime most people hear the words “I Have a Dream” they associate it with Martin Luther King JR of this speech. The main idea of this speech is that Martin Luther King JR is that African Americans have been discriminated against for too long and all people regardless of their color deserve equality. His thesis statement in the speech is “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out its true meaning of its creed”. This statement means that he believes one day this nation will finally stop segregation and recognize everyone no matter their skin color as equals.
When I listened to the speech I agreed with Martin Luther King JR’s side that everyone should be treated equal. This speech was persuasive because it persuaded the people of America to stop the discrimination against the African Americans and recognize all people equally. Also he effectively used rhetorical skills in his speech. One rhetorical skill he used was the repetition in his speech by repeating the phrase “I Have a Dream” to help prove his main points. Another rhetorical skill he used was how his tone how it empowered those who were being discriminated against in giving them hope that they will one day will be fully free and have equality. In addition Martin Luther King JR displayed great vocal variety by the way emphasized certain important phrases like “I Have a Dream”.
I enjoyed this speech because Martin Luther King JR clearly and effectively proved his thesis in way he not only proved all his main points but also captured the attention of his audience. In addition I agreed with all his main points and I think he did an amazing job in persuading the other side to agree with his views. Martin Luther King JR was able to keep his audience’s attention throughout the speech with his amazing vocal variety and how he perfectly executed his delivery of the speech. This speech is so famous because Martin Luther King JR delivered this speech perfectly and it confronted such an important topic in segregation.
