Read Chapter 5 in the Text - Pgs. 77-97. This chapter focuses on "Choosing a Topic". This will aid in the process of thinking about your informative speech!
I will introduce the informative speech and post a schedule at the end of this week.
In the meantime. Watch Angela Duckworth in her TED Talk "Grit". She discusses the purpose and authentic possibilities in relation to perseverance and determination. University of Pennsylvania Professor is most popular for her 2013 speech on "Grit": The power of passion and perseverance.
Actively Listen: Take notes (in your notebook) while you listen/watch .
Think about her hook (introduction). What makes her hook so relevant to that of her main points/purpose?
What is her thesis? Main idea of the speech?
How does she break her main point down into parts and provide her listeners with powerful and meaningful information?
Is this an informative speech? Did you learn something?

Critical Thinking: How does "Grit" shape our understanding of success or lack there of?
Can grit be taught? Are we born with grit? If you were to give an informative speech in class what would you want to learn more about? Teach the class about?
